Minnesota Heathens is a service organization for the Heathen community seeking to bring
together those in the Minnesota area who are drawn to the Northern ways.
Heathenry is the indigenous cultural, mystical, and spiritual traditions of the Scandinavian, German, Anglo-Saxon and other Northern European peoples. While Asatru might be the best known form of Heathenry we encourage and support folks to support all forms of Heathenry so that we might grow as a strong and diverse community of those who honor our ancient Northern traditions and our Elder Kin. As we grow as a community we can combine our efforts to support a greater number local Kindreds throughout the region and other regional events so we can meet face to face to pass the horn.
We are busy people and our free time is precious. We have no desire to waste your time or ours on racists, fascists, or "National Socialists" who try to use our lore to support their anti-Heathen, Christian-Identity-based dogma. Minnesota has a significant traditionalist Native American population, however, which serves as a good example of the non-racist folkish view. Heathenry today is no more "European" than Hinduism is "Indian" or Christianity is "Jewish." Being proud of your heritage has nothing to do with hating the heritage of someone else. We do not care if you are "folkish" or "universalist," most of us fall somewhere in-between the two extremes. Homophobia has no place here if for no other reason than we live in an area with a significant GLBT community. You don't have to like it and have a right to your beliefs but the GLBT community is a part of our community.
When politics and rhetoric are set aside,
we are all Heathen,
which is all that really matters.
